How are humans supposed to come together as one community when we are constantly singling out groups??

Question

Every month focusing on a group of people...african americans and women for instance. I feel like everyone needs to just get over their "special quality" and start working on the larger picture. Sometimes I feel frustrated that our society is trying to do me (a woman) a favor by making the rest of the country try to appreciate or empower me. BLAH! I don't want to be singled out, helped or supported because of my gender. I just want to be a person. Does anyone else get what I am trying to say?
