I don't think so. I've been to plenty of baby showers that had males and females there. I think it's cute when the husbands are there to help open presents. It makes them feel involved in a thing that they sometimes feel left out of. It's your shower....invite whoever you want! You have to admit pictures of your and your husband holding a newborn outfit would be adorable : ) Congrats!

Back where I am from in my hometown only women attented baby showers. I was shocked when I was invited to some here in LA and saw many men, equal as the women attenting. I told my husband and he tells me that basically men want to celebrate and is an excuse to drink. But its really nice because the husband of the one being celebrated gets to be involved in everything, even playing the games. So, don't worry and enjoy your baby shower. Believe me I am 25 weeks and my husbands guy friends are already planning things to bring for when I get mine.

My fiance invited all of his friends to my shower, but the guys only said they would come if they could spend the whole time playing Poker. To make it more "baby shower-ish," I had a deck of cards personalized with our baby's ultrasound pictures on the back. Lol. Some might think it's a waste of money, but at least they wont' forget WHY they're really there when they shuffle the deck.

Not really. If your husband is coming then I would tell your guests that the men are welcomed. You could even ask a few relatives or friends if their hubby is coming and maybe your father in law can decide from there.
Most showers I have been to there are some men there and sometimes more than others.

My husband LOVED going to our showers, and was actually a bit offended when my mom planned a 'girly shower' that he wasn't invited to :P
Mostly, though, it depends on the area where you live, and whether or not there will be other men there. If your FIL and your husband are the only two men there, FIL might feel uncomfortable, but if other males--relatives, friends, the other grandfather(s)--will be there, then he'll probably be ok. I would trust my husband's opinion, though--it's his father, after all.
Good luck, and congratz on your baby!!

Baby showers really are generally a girl thing. Maybe you could get your hubby a gift certificate for a round of golf during the shower.

i've been to baby showers of mostly girls and i've been to some with a mix. either way, it would be a nice gesture to invite your father-in-law... even if he decides not to go. and if he does at least your husband will be there.

I'm old school and think that yes, baby showers are for the women. The men can come later when it's time to open gifts so the father of the child can be part of that and then carry them out to the car! But having the men there the whole time...no.

Lots of baby showers include men now a days, it is really up to you and your husband and how you feel on the matter. I have been to ones where the men came and had lots of fun. At mine we wanted to have men come but I did change my mind at the end and it was all girls.

Many people now are having "joint parent" baby showers. My friends husband attended their 1st daughters shower and he was the life of the party.
