I am currently an undergraduate psychology major and I'm looking into becoming an LPC (licensed professional counselor) and/or a life coach and I was just wondering which regions or cities in the U.S. have the highest demand or employ the greatest number? The reason I'm wondering is because each state has some differences in the qualifications for licensure, so I'd like to move somewhere where there is a great demand before I get licensed. Thanks for your help!

Hi Jaki F,

As regards LPCs, you unfortunately need a masters or doctorate to sit for the state licensing exams - I know of no state where a bachelors is sufficient. There's a link below that will point you to some state licensing boards for info, plus the advisors at your school should be able to help.

Life coaches aren't regulated by states (or anyone else.) The work itself is frequently performed via phone, so location is mostly important for community-based marketing efforts - speaking to groups, etc. My advice is to pick a place you want to live and go live there. Best of luck to you!
