More likely the Middle East region.....specifically in the area where Iraq is today. The first human civilization were the Sumerians in this area. Most likely people spread from that point in all directions. Europe was the last to be settled due to the Ice age weather patterns.
Interesting thought to is that the Garden of Eden is known to be between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers....where Iraq is today. Read Genesis to verify this.
As for skin tones, those that went North, became isolated from the rest of humanity due to other Ice ages. The less sunlight and cloudy conditions caused a lighter skin adaptation to take effect. Those in hot, desert regions, adapted with an overproduction of melanin and became very dark. The other main group is the Asiatic features. Everyone else comes from these 3 main groups.

Most Americans however are NOT originally from America unless they are Native Americas, same with Austraila (Aboriginis) and the caribean (Caribs and Arawaks).
