Well i'll tell you a lil story.
Once when i was about 17 years old i drove my car at about 30 mph over a cement island in the middle of a parking lot, slit open my two drivers side tires at about 11pm and had to call my dad for help. Not my best moment. It took me a while to get comfortable with driving in large areas with islands in them, but eventually I got over it.
You just need to take it slow and keep trying.
Start in an open area, then work your way onto side streets or dirt roads, as mentioned. and definately take advantage of the open road when no one is on it during odd hours.
stay away from freeways, obviously and just drive in circles if you want. stay in the right lane and then after a lil bit, turn off, then do it again.eventually you will be cruising down a main road and wont even realize it. Good Luck To Ya.

My husbands mom never drove other then one day in her life and I know a few other women like this too. I started to drive young, but when I was in a car accident with my then 18month old daughter in the back seat I swore I'd never drive again. Every time I got into a car I had flashbacks. Then one day I was home my daughter got ill I had to call 911 and the ONLY way for me to get to the hospital was to drive. I got in the car said a little prayer and was off. I still get scared about other cars around me and I am a VERY careful driver watching out for everyone else and a little paraniod 12 yrs later but I do it. Hypnosis might help for you or taking a class where you can drive in an area where its just you behind the wheel until you are comfortable

maybe you could start off in the empty areas and then gradually work your way up. Once thats comfortable, go to a place with very little traffic and wait til thats comfortable before moving on.
Do you have anxiety in general or is this the only area where you are scared? You may want to think about that some...
best of luck to you

1. yes , take class to build confidence . 2. practice . Sunday morning 6:00 am , has lightest daylight traffic of the week . drive 'scariest' roads then .

Take a driving course and practice driving on old dirt roads. I taught my daughter to drive in all types of weather conditions and situations. She now has no fears and knows how to react in all situations.
