I am sure this will not be a popular answer and any doctors or diaticians will not approve...but I had to do what worked. I was always very thin...but after having several brain tumors removed and lots of steroids and other meds being given to me, I gain a lot of weight. How I lost it... I only eat once a day. Usually dinner. If I go out to luch, I just keep that as my meal. I drink trimspa waters. I keep my meals fairly small and avoid a lot of carbs. I have lost almost 80 pounds in short order. I am down to a size 4 almost a size 2 in just 7 months. It is not easy at first, but after a few days your system will adjust to the new schedule of less food and only once a day. I also joined a gym and exercise often...I now weigh 125 am 37 and look better than I ever have in my life!

I have the exact opposite problem. No matter what I do I can't gain weight. So I found this web site and it helps. www.healthychoice.com. They provide a meal plan (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack) every day. They also have a printable shopping list and a list of substitutions if you don't like a particular food they have listed. You have to fill in a questionnaire about your height, weight, and target weight, and they tell you your BMI, how many calories you should have a day, and how fast you can safely get to your target weight. They then provide a meal plan according to that. They said that if I followed the meal plan, I could gain weight. I'm sure you could lose weight with it too. And it's free. I know you said you know how to exercise, but just to let you know, they also have a fitness plan drawn up to fit your body.
A comment about the one who said she only eats once a day. That may work really well for her, but I know someone who did that for two months and her body never got used to it. She would have bad diarrhea every day. Only after she started eating more times a day did it get better. So it might work for you, but maybe not.

I would highly recommend the South Beach diet.. Its just a way of eating healthier and eating the right kinds of things to help your body burn your fat deposits rather than store more.. Its a great diet, you can eat as much as you want (as long as you are eating the right foods) so you aren't ever hungry.. It works.. Its the only diet I've ever lost any weight on.. You can get the south beach diet book at your library.. It tells you all the foods that are ok to eat, and why, it even has recipes .

Carbs are really hard to cut.. but they WILL help you lose weight..
Also... just watch your intake of EVERYTHING. The only thing that I think you can eat in excess is protein. Watch carbs.. calories.. and fat..
There is a protein diet where you DONT have to watch carbs.. Im trying that one..
Drink a protein shake.. its really nasty, Im trying it with 2% chocolate milk.. LOL. I guess Im cheating a lil.. its the only way I can drink it. But its Muscle Milk by GNC
And I can eat as much fruit and yogurt as I please..
To me fruit is like dessert.
