"I was not involved in the deliberations over whether or not the US attorneys should resign…"

"I know why I asked these United States attorneys to leave and it was not for improper reasons…"

So, let me get this straight... we're talking about González, right? We're talking about the Republican, right? Now, in no time at all, someone is going to bring up the past and ask about Clinton and other past liars... imagine, if González, can lie... what does it say about our Judicial system? WHO can we trust?

I can't wait until someone starts deliberately confusing the issue of mid-term firings (or demanding to resign) by those who were not malfeasance or delinquent or not inept or not doing their jobs... but WERE doing their jobs and were also investigating or prosecuting high level Republicans with possible ties to the White House... not re-appointing someone to a post at the beginning of the administration term is NOT the same as firing or demanding that someone who is doing his/her job to resign, particularly when that person is on either investigating or prosecuting criminals that happen to also be Republicans.

Let's keep the issues clear and simple; let's not confuse them. I can just imagine a bank robber getting caught and saying, "Look , officers, forgive me.. OK? I just made a simple mistake..." and all is fine and dandy... heck, our prisons wouldn't be so filled if we had so many forgiving Republicans... but, wait a minute... aren't Republicans screaming and screeching about the soft-hearted Liberals who are too easy on criminals? What's going on?

Let me bring up an old issue to see how this "he told the truth and people don't want to believe him" issue stand up. There are records and a White House paper-trail on how the Bushit Administration did not listen to Clinton's aides as they tried persistently and repeatedly to warn the new administration on the gathered information on the terrorists and the possibilities of attacks here on the homeland... yet, the Bushit and his cronies say it ain't so... but... what about the records and the paper-trail that clearly proves this is the case? How come Bushies are still blaming the wrong guy, Slick Willy Clinton? Don't the same rules apply now to the Attorney Generalissimo "Torture them all" González? I now wonder how many innocent people he lied as a prosecutor to convict and how much exculpatory evidence he hid... just to convict someone, guilty or not!

Those are two separate and distict statements.

1. He was not involved in the deliberations, ie the discussion, on whether or not they should resign.

2. He states specifically that he asked the attorneys to leave their posts.( he serves at the pleasure of the president, he was told to ask them to resign) and it was within the scope of the president's power, hence no improper reason (political hire = political fire, all perfectly legal)

You, may not believe him, but that does not make him a liar.

Alberto Gonzalez is part of the Bush Administration. Everyone in the Bush Administration lies if they expect to keep their cushy jobs therefore Gonzo had to lie. He may lose his cushy job anyway.

This whole situation would not have gotten so out of hand if he had not lied to begin with. That is why even Republicans are calling for his resignation.
