Should the mechanics have picked up the motor mounts being bad upon taking out the transmission and rebuilding it. After they rebuilt it and I got the car back it went out 7 days later. They told me they would not warranty it because the motor mounts broke causing the selinoid to hit something and go bad. The transmission went back to doing the same thing it did before the rebuild.

You should clarify by saying what sort of car you have. In general, a good mechanic should have taken a quick look around and probably have picked up on the bad mounts. If for no other reason than to potentially make a little more money for the job.
To answer your question properly, yes, excessive vibration is very often a sign of bad engine or transmission mounts, although not the only possible cause of it.

It is hard to say you get many types of engines out their that are for the same car but have mountings that will differ from one and the other. so you will have to check the mountings on both the car and in the engine compartment to see for proper fit.

Could have been other factors- but I wouldn't recommend going back to those guys again- time for a NEWER car with less problems. I think you wasted a lot of money.

that's BS...the engine mounts wold not let the transmission shift far enough to have the solenoid to come in contact with anything!...btw the solenoid is cheap! and they charged you to rebuild the entire tranny...you got ripped...take it back to them if they won't fix it call the BBB and take them to court
