No one can own the Moon according to the 1967 UN treaty signed by all UN members. The document itself is called
"Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies".
There are crooks out there selling Lunar property but it is all false.
Article II of the treaty states that no country can own the Moon.
The full text for Article II is:
"Outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means."
Article VI of the treaty is the one that specifically states that non-governmental bodies must conduct their business in space in accordance with the treaty which means that such a body can't own the Moon either
The full text for Article VI is:
"States Parties to the Treaty shall bear international responsibility for national activities in outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, whether such activities are carried on by governmental agencies or by non-governmental entities, and for assuring that national activities are carried out in conformity with the provisions set forth in the present Treaty. The activities of non-governmental entities in outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, shall require authorization and continuing supervision by the appropriate State Party to the Treaty. When activities are carried on in outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, by an international organization, responsibility for compliance with this Treaty shall be borne both by the international organization and by the States Parties to the Treaty participating in such organization."

There is a Space Treaty that says that no government may claim the Moon.
Of course, some Amerrican company claims to have filed "official papers" to lay claim to the moon and, this claim not having been challenged, then the Moon is theirs to sell.
And they are selling it off to gullible people, separating them from their money. Joseph Bessimer gave us the 'philosophy' under which we still seem to operate.

No government can claim the moon, collectively humanity owns it. But we do not have the power to "evict" squatters or charge rent, who would enforce it?
