I believe that there are lots of people who are just a step away from being homeless, and don't even realize it. It happens more than you think.

I just watched the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness" last night.
It portrayed a very hard working American who became homeless, but then earned his way out of homelessness. It's a good movie. Unfortunately, not everyone is capable of solving a Rubiks Cube. Some can find a few examples of how people worked their way out of homelessness. Usually because that person was endowed with a special talent or superior intelligence. What happens to the average person who becomes homeless?

You can work three full time 'minimum wage' jobs in California and still wind up living in a car parked on a freeway overpass because housing, transportation and other costs are too overwhelming.

Good luck finding an apartment in Southern California for under $1200 a month (that is, one that's worth living in...).

And God help you if you have medical issues that require medicine.

i am not from California but i do know that the price of living out their is high. You try to get a job making minimum wage. I just don't see how you could have a house or a car with out being a famous actor or something like that

Check out real estate prices in Ca. Living in an apartment requires at least 2-3 incomes to support the rent.

It's true in any state.

You may have to live in a studio apartment with a roommate, but you don't have to be homeless if you have any sort of work ethic at all.

If you are chasing a dream like being an actor or musician, you then CHOOSE to live in a car. You don't have to. You could get a job making minimum wage and keep a roof over your head. And, if you have any talents at all, you won't be making minimum wage for long.

My friend, come to St. Petersburg Florida if you want to see people on the street. Wow! And we have so many programs for them. Some of them are good people. But ever try to get a job nasty and stinky?

I dont think like that. Homelessness happens to a variety of people for a variety of reasons. Its always bad so who really cares how someone ends up that way. Why not focus on how to get them into a place to live.

Many homeless are mentally ill. Some are schizophrenic.

There is not enough money to have them all in shelters, but there is enough money to go to Iraq and kill thousands!

BTW: Rent for a 2-bedroom apt. is about $1,800 a month...that does not help either!
