We are looking to go July 6-July 9.

We are wanting to stay on the strip. Preferably in a 4-5 star hotel. The price range I am looking for is $100 or less weekend price and $50 for the Sunday. I was told that if I waited I could get better deals at the last minute? But, that scares me!

I have found that I can save money by booking hotel and air separate.

these are the best sites to compare room rates
http://www.travelworm.com
http://www.i4vegas.com

with this site you can link to the web site of every hotel/casino in LV
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com "VEGAS INFO" >Hotel/Casinos

I check rates through the travel sites but I only book rooms through hotel reservations. That way I can keep looking for a better deal all the way up until we leave.

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. We are willing to work at it and plan, well in advance, but our vacations cost us very little - December 5th-19th 2006 >$232 each for 14 nights hotel and RT air from KC<
We have 15 nights coming up May 20th - June 4th total cost as of now - $376>and we have 2 rooms(4 nights) at one hotel, I'm sure we will be able to cut that cost down some - We are also holding rooms for December 16 - January 1st >total cost $232< You can save money by booking separate, you just have to be willing to work at it.

Later:I was hoping you would "add details" to your Q and give me some feedback on those hotels. If you narrow it down a little to what you're interested in, then I can go into more detail. You didn't include a price range, location you prefer to stay, if you're going to have a car, the amenities you're most interested in?, etc.

Much Later: always-always-always book your room as far in advance as possible. "Then" you keep on looking up until you leave, rates usually go up,(not always though) so if you book now and keep looking(once a week or so) until July you would have a shot at finding a lower rate. Waiting until the last minute to book a cruise may be a good plan(at times) but not a room in LV. I highly doubt you are going to find your($250 total) rate for that weekend at a 4-5 star hotel. Not when the best rate I could find for a 4 star was the $139 avg at Luxor or $159 at Paris -

If you would be willing to stay at a nice 3 star, then the Stratosphere($87) would be close to your total and they will price match the rate I found(which would allow you to keep looking for a better rate) Bill's Gamblin Hall($80)(ex Barbary Coast) is actually a VERY nice hotel with a great location in the center of the strip, but they don't have a pool if that's important to you.

Bill's has the nicer rooms and location, the Stratosphere has nice pool(s) and is actually a very nice hotel, it just has a bad location. at the far north end of the strip.

I know you said you wanted to stay "on the strip' but I will throw this one in anyway - The Orleans is not on the strip it's a little over 1 mile West of the strip on Tropicana, but they do have a free shuttle that runs to the center strip about every 20 minutes. The Orleans was voted the #2 "best value" hotel in the world by the readers/travelers of trip advisor. I gave you the web address above. the Orleans is one I recommend all the time and I have never had anyone not really like the place. It's gotten to where when I find a deal on this one I just go ahead and hold 2 rooms because someone(family) is going to want to go with us when they find out. They have very nice oversize rooms, a nice pool, very nice casino with low limit play, as good a restaurant selection "for value" as any hotel in LV . They also have rooms with the most incredible panoramic view of LV, IMHO it's the most spectacular of any rooms in LV< If you should decide you might be interested in the Orleans let me know and I will tell you how to go about "getting a room with a view".

If you would like, feel free to send me anonymous e-mail Q's through YA.

Hi Yaya! All of the sites listed are great resources. But frankly, having traveled to Las Vegas many times in July the real skinny is that you can find good deals everywhere. It's very hot there that time of year and most hotels work hard to get your business. My advice would be to pick the place that you'd like to stay and then try to find a good deal for that hotel. It's a great opportunity to stay in a really ritzy place that you ordinarily wouldn't be able to afford.

Last year we stayed at Mandalay Bay (one of the nicest places on the stip) for $69 a night. Was it more than Circus, Circus was asking? Sure, but we had a much better time in a really swank place. Have a great time!

I'm going at the end of June. If you want to do the package deal with hotel and airfare included, the following have decent deals:

Orbitz
Travelocity
Expedia
Priceline

I actually rented our rooms directly through the hotel and booked our flights seperately. It came out about a $150 more but we were able to split up our stay between two different hotels (which was what we wanted).

My only suggestion is not to stay in a strip hotel. There are nice places off the strip that are a lot cheaper. Also keep in mind airfare here is cheap but leaving is expensive.

Go to this site. I go there 2-3 times a year and this is the place to get rooms, show tickets, air whatever for the best price. You can compare it to all the others. I always get the best deal at this site.

The one that i have noticed some of the best pricing on is...

www.priceline.com

There are also travelocity.com and a few more, but I dont remember them. Priceline has seemed the most fair to me and it has airline/hote/ and rental car booking all in one!
