why are UK homes made so small, stretch, narrow with little worm size stairs when half of the culture is over-weight and wide to pass a door? Busses, trains, homes, all made so small, and yet everybody is bigger than the culture I am. We have big homes and things are bigger, and yet we are petite.

The homes were built long before the people got so over-weight. I wonder what country you live in that the people are petite and the homes and things are big. It can't be the USA because even though we have big homes and things the average person is over-weight and many are actually obese, including me. You should see the really small toilet rooms in the Netherlands and how tall some of the people are. I could barely close the door because my knees didn't have room when I sat on the toilet. It was such a small room the sink was outside the room the toilet was in. Also check out the stairs in the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia, here in the states. It was built closer to the time many of the buildings in London were built.

No Insult, but the term American and Petite do not belong in the same sentence.

It is a question of room. Most of what you describe as small in the UK is decided on the amount of land space available at a time when it was constructed. Europe is the same and it is also reflected in the streets and vehicles. The streets are often narrow winding between buildings built close together or between paddocks and fields.

The cars are smaller fuel efficient as they do not need the big V8's and have excellent steering

In comparison the US with its wide open spaces sprawled out and as a wealthier nation could afford to do so.

One down turn to this was the US cars are reputed to have no steering because they do not know what a corner is.

That is a little tongue in cheek OK, but if you look at the turning radius of a Chev or Ford in the US compared to a Ford or Vauxhall in the UK or Europe you will find there is a great difference

Tradition? England is an island and there is only so much room and a lot of people.
Just curious, where are you from with big houses and petite sizes?
