I had my first daughter by c-section (breech) and the doctor (or who ever did it) gave me an epidural while I was having a contraction, as Ive been told epidurals can hurt.
If anything my heart rate went down as I was having her (as I have a leaky heart value) they had a heart monitor on me & I had to spend the night in the cardo ward.
I would say you were nervous, but I could be wrong.
If you are worried have your heart checked out

During my last pregnancy I had the heart thing going on. The only way I could describe it was a "jello" feeling, like fluttering. My doc put me on a monitor for 24 hours and then told me I had anxiety. I had an epidural during my labor and did just fine! I have one hint for you if you decide to do the epidural...drink a 2 liter of caffeinated soda after labor. My doc told me to do that. I know it's weird but they said it helps the injection site to heal. If it doesn't close up you will get a spinal headache. Trust me when I tell you that you don't want this headache. (I got one years ago from a spinal tap)
The epidural is a miracle beyond words.

I had 2 c-sections, I don't remember having an increased heartrate with either epidural. If you're going to have another, I'd definitely mention it to the anethesiologist, but its probably just nerves.

I had both but I don't remember having any side effects like what you are describing. I have heard of women getting headaches from th epidural. And during my friend's second c-section, the anesthesiologist did not do the spinal block right and she felt most of the procedure. Ouch! I think it may be your nerves, but it wouldn't hurt to ask the doc about it either.

I have had 2 c-sections and I have not noticed an increase in heart rate. I also would go with your nerves. The epidural didn't bother me one bit, but I do know from tons of experience that when I get an IV put in, my heart rate goes through the roof, so it definitely has to do with nerves, definately.

All I remember from the epidural is the metallic taste in my mouth, no increased heartrate, but reactions vary from person to person.

I think it was just your nerves. I had a c-section done on February 15th 2007 and I was really nervous so my heartrate went up. They told me to relax and I did then my heartrate went down.

I've never had either, but I've never heard of that. If you're about to give birth again, talk to your anesthesiologist about it beforehand. There are usually a couple of different numbing medications they can use, and if you have a weird reaction to one they will try another to see if it works better for you. Or, it may be that they could add another one in to offset the fast heartrate. It's worth asking about anyway.
