I think that prejudice towards old people is shameful. These folks gave our parents life, who in turn gave us life. Or in my case, these folks gave us life (my parents were old when they died). Old people have so much life experience and wisdom they can share with us. We may not always speak the same language, so to speak, but we can learn from each other. We owe it to these folks to treat them with the utmost care and respect. They deserve no less. That our society tends to discard them and treat them as if they are no longer useful or are annoying, is really quite sad. We ought to treat others the way we want to be treated. Their bodies might be old on the outside, but they are still the same people they were when they were young, on the inside. We need to remember that. One day, we too will be old, if we are blessed, and how we treat old people today could be how we are treated when we ourselves are old.
Thank you for such a good question!

Although prejudice is latent towards anyone being "different" whatever the word "different" means in each culture, prejudice towards old people is a big issue in Western society. There is a lack of respect for the experience and the ability to live a long life.
When I think that we ALL will be old, sooner than we think, I feel vulnerable with this prejudice. Because we will be the SAME person, with the same ideas and feelings. Remember when we were children? We are still that child, perhaps with more knowledge, and we will still be that child when we are 90.
My best friend is a man that is 80 years old, there is no difference, the only difference is his white hair and tired skin. In the inside he is still the same guy and yes, he has these amazing stories.
Prejudice in any form or directed to ANY group of people is a shame

Everyone experiences prejudice - young, old, fat, skinny, tall, short, rich, poor, black, white, etc.
Everyone has someone who looks at them at dislikes them for some stupid reason.
The elderly experience no more prejudice than any other group.
