India is a very large and diverse country. So many religions faiths... dogmas and creeds! The treatment of Hindu women in India is primarily dependent upon the social status of the family, living conditions and the society.

In the metropolitan cities and towns... the Hindu women are a respected lot. In the Indian parliament... the bill for equal rights is pending approval. Nowadays... many women representing their parts of the country are respected parliamentarians.

There are instances of very successful women entrepreneurs like Kiran Mazumdar of Biocon.

As we move towards towns and villages... Hindu women are a satisfied lot as compared to earlier days when womenfolk were practically treated a commodity.

In every walk of life, Indian women are competing better the world over. Whether it is the computer industry or the watch factory... we find Hindu women employed by thousands. This results in healthier family life.

In places rather villages where the chieftain of the village rules the roost... womenfolk sometimes are a betrayed lot. They do not get the expected respect.

Marriages far and wide are sustainable. To think of divorce in Indian circumstances is out of context. Divorce is still a taboo in India and not even one per cent marriages result in divorce. A women divorcee still has no life in India. Remarriage is not the order of the day.

Gone are the days when marriages took place forcibly. Now Hindu marriages are mostly by choice. More on Hinduism Beliefs - http://www.godrealized.com/hinduism_beliefs.html

Why, do u feel divorce is a good practice? Not for only women but equally for men, its painful thing.

And as far as ur question regarding treatment of women in India is concerned, you can understand from the below verse which we are following since ancient times

"Yatra Naryastu Pujayante Ramante Tatra Devta", meaning "where women are respected Gods reside".

Dont make the act of few people act of the whole Indian community. Be matured.

R u suggesting getting divorced a great thing?? or right thing??

to either man or woman its considered as a personal failure and a hardship in India..
Anyway there is a lot of increase in the divorce rate and a divorcee will get married only to a divorcee...
