Front end or front office will be a division where you will talk to your customers directly
While in a back office... you will be a support to the front end...
In banking for example... the staff who sit at the office... collect money.... give you cash... etc will be front office... while those who process your cheques... do interest calculation etc will form back office...
Again as i said... front end will be the face of the organization... back end is the process/ transaction oriented jobs...

In healthcare the front office is the administrative section and the back office is where the medical professionals see their patients.
In most settings, the front office refers to the reception area and the back office is where the business is conducted.

front office jobs generally entail direct customer or client contact - such as sales
back office jobs support the operation and would include administration and finance
so think of a retail store - the sales clerks are out "front" with the customers and the credit department employees are in the "back office"
hope this helps, good luck with the interview
cheers,
gato

Outsourcing allows for your company to be flexible with services offered to best fit the needs and requirements of your back office functions. As the company grows, so do the back office functions. In these times of growth, you focus on how the work will get done if you are not equipped to handle it, but with outsourcing the work is done and completed without any interventions on your part. The business becomes more flexible investing into other areas.

In my job we refer to the back office jobs as our managers and the the guys that oversee the operations of the folks doing the front office jobs. The front office guys are the ones that oversee day to day operations and do the work.

Typically front office jobs are those that have direct contact with customers whereas back office jobs are usually more operational in nature and require more internal interaction (i.e. w/in the organization itself) rather than externally (with customers etc).

Lets assume you are in a software company.
If you are dealing with the clients directly you are the front end
Your tech guys are the back end.
