Since it's nice out now, I keep my windows open. Is there any type of device that I can put on the open windows to prevent a burglar from opening the window any farther and breaking in?

they DO make windows that have little "stops" at a certain point, so the windows cannot be pushed up any more, but i'm not sure if they sell the gadgets alone that can be added on to existing windows.

In college, I always used a piece of wood (or better yet, metal) and placed it between the top of the window frame and resting on the top of the opened window frame, so that it prevented the window from being opened any further on either side. You just have to push up the window enough that the wood or stick is tight in there. Probably not 100% safe, but at least a deterrant.

What i use is a wooden stick cut from a board about 3/4 inch square and of a length so that a burgular cannot climb thru. The stick is placed beneath the pull cord of the window and stays nicely in that place.
