How can I stop worrying so much? How can I enjoy life more? How can I be more light-hearted? Anyone know of any activities which may aide me in this?

Counseling might be good for you. I think that if you try to live your life in gratitude, it helps to put things in perspective so that you don't worry so much and do enjoy your life more. Write down things that you are grateful for and keep going down to silly things, like I'm grateful to have enough electricity to use this computer to write to strange people. But seriously, it does help to keep that kind of list going. And thank God daily for the things you have. I do. My car, job, health, kids, family, etc.

Change your thinking. Worry and anxiety are throw-backs from the days of running from the saber-tooth tiger. And the news, scary movies, etc. play on that fear.

Avoid "bad" news and do fun things you love to do. When a thought pops up that is worry or that makes you feel anxious just say, "throw back" and toss it off and go back to the fun.

The fact is that when we worry, it is wholly unproductive. It helps nothing and we usually only worry about the wrong thing, so just toss it off.

Our instinct, when we feel anxious is to find something to worry about - "I feel this way so there MUST be something to be afraid of" so we search and we can always find SOMETHING even if it's pretty silly.

The trick is to stop the searching. The feeling is ancient and it was a good survival tool. Now, however, it's outdated. There is no saber-tooth tiger.

What do you love to do? Go do that. When you have a worry - ask if there's anything that you can do about it. If so, great - fix it. If not, let it go.

I used to be like you, then something opened my eyes. I have a 6 year old daughter, and i was over-protective of her (i have two older boys), till one day, i was sitting in the back porch drinking tea, and watching her as she jumped on the trampoline. Suddenly i heard a sound like a branch snapping, when i looked, she was on the floor with her arm broken.
Now, i was there. I supposed that if i was there i somehow could control the situation. Wrong.
You see, things happen, whether you worry or not, and by worrying you are being kept from fully enjoying certain things. Accidents are going to happen, wheather you worry or not. Good things are also going to happen wheather you worry or not.
So, let go of that need to control (which it's all it is in the end) and enjoy your life!

Figure out what you're so worried about. Is it something you can control? If you are worrying about something you have no control over, realize this and focus on other things...horseback riding, basketball, fixing dinner....

If you are worried about something you can control...weight gain...for example, then figure out what you can do to either gain weight (if you're too thin) or lose weight (if you're too big).

It may help to be involved in a team sport, community project, church group, or a hobby you find relaxing. Try a variety if you don't have a hobby or sport interest. Figure out what you enjoy in life....and focus on the good.
