Typically around 36 weeks, mine started at 37 weeks. I have heard of some doctors not checking at all, because it is really not a good indicator of when labor will start. Women can walk around dilated at say 3cm for couple of weeks, so it is hard to judge. My doctor though asked me if I wanted to be checked from here on out and I said yes. She has no problem with this, so if your Doc doesn't, just ask.

I think it depends on your doctor/midwife. When I was pregnant with my first two daughters, the doctor started checking me at 36 weeks. With my now 10 week old daughter, they didn't check until 38 weeks.

I will say, though, that if you are dialated, it could still be weeks. I was dialated at 3 for 3 weeks.

I wanted to add, though, that if you have been having any contractions or pains, your doctor would probably check you, no matter how far along you are. This happened to me once with my second daughter.

It all depends on the dr office really. I have heard of some starting at 35 weeks and others not starting until 38 weeks. Average is 36-37 weeks along though. Good luck. My first check was 36w 5d.

My mid-wife did not check unless i asked her to, because just because you are dilated does not mean labor is going to come anytime soon, and you will go home either depressed cause you are not or all anxious because you think wow 2 cm I'm going to go into labor tonight better to just not know for me mentally--I walk around dilated(got checked with my first baby) the last 2 weeks at 3-4cm. I think most Doc. routinely check at 32 weeks.
