It has now been almost 4 weeks later, and she still hasn't passed it naturally. She was going to try that before she had a d&c. My question is, should she be so tired and exhausted. She is getting plenty of sleep, but she says she is worn out all the time. Is this normal after an embryo has died, or could she be getting sick b/c it has been 4 weeks? The doctor doesn't seemed to be worried about it, but I am. Has anyone gone through a similiar thing?

No one else seems to have suggested this but her body will still feel as though it is pregnant, so as sad as it is, these could still be pregnancy symptoms. Coupled with (understandable) depression, this will be a very sad, difficult time for your daughter.

Even after a D&C there are still pregnancy hormones in the body for 3 months.

I was told this by a doctor after having a D&C - that your body can still think its pregnant for 3 months.

Your daughter should definately discuss her concerns with a medical professional.

I would be concerned, I have had 4 misscarriages between 5 1/2 and 7 1/2 weeks. If I were her I would get a DNC and get a second doctor to check her out. My doc didn't do a DNC with my 3rd miscarriage and my kidneys started shutting down, it messed up my pituitary gland (the master hormone gland), and I literally felt tired every minute of the day. It took me an entire year to recover and now 3 years later I still do not have the energy that I once did. I would be concerned, I would get a second opinion!

My prayers are with you and your daughter. I also had a similar experience and like "small fr" above, my kidneys had shut down. I was extremely tired and dehydrated. My baby had died at 8 weeks but it wasn't until 12 weeks that I was finally able to get a d&c. By then I was exhausted, pale, weak, and recovery took a very long time. I was also very depressed. Luckily, I had some very supportive people around me and was able to get my health back for my second baby. Please have her see another doctor or visit the ER. My doctors were worried by the second week.

I am sorry for your loss. I had a Blighted Ovum at 10 weeks and had a d & c done right afterwards. They told me that is was best to have a d & c rather than waiting on it to pass. Plus it cleans out your uterues well. It also helps the women heal better. She could be getting sick or maybe an effection. I would take her to the DR just in case something might go wrong.

Your daughter needs to have a D&C immediately. Usually miscarriages happen because the baby is not viable and the body recognizes this and rejects it. I had a miscarriage in July 2006 at 8 weeks. I told my doctor that I would like it to pass naturally. She then told me that if nothing happened within 5 days I was to come in to have a D&C.
She is probably tired because the baby is kind of like an infection for her and she needs to get it out of her body. The longer it stays in could cause a serious threat to her body and may affect her fertility in the future.

It could be either depression or infection, both of which are dangerous and need to be evaluated. It doesn;t hurt to get a second opinion from another doctor regarding infection.

It is pretty dumb to give multiple thumbs downs to someone who is simply letting you know another reason for the extreme tiredness and fatigue she is experiencing. Goes to show that most of you only want to hear what you in your mind have already decided is the right answer, makes me wonder why any of you even bother to ask the question in the first place.

She needs to have a d & c done. I have had two miscarriages...one I had a d & c the other I let pass naturally. It passed around a week later and my doctor said if it hadn't passed in two weeks a d & c needed to be done so that there was no chance of infection.

She needs to have a D&C NOW! She could develop some kind of infection that could keep her from getting pregnant again. It is not worth the risk to try to pass it naturally. My first miscarriage (I've had 3) I passed it within a week. After 2 weeks her doctor should have interveined.

I had the same problem...it was a blighted ovum and I had the same choice to let it pass on its own or have the d&c...I opted for the d&c so that it was over with right away. I was also told by my Dr that it would make the uterus better after having the d&c. She might just want to schedule the d&c and get it taken care of. Are they sure that it died??
