why separate them at all? why would we want to separate the genders? in this age of "freedom of everything" why is gender separation ok? if i remember correctly, seems like a lot of people have a problem separating bathrooms by race. if it's for sexuality reasons, then that creates a "slippery slope" by suggesting that we should have homosexual bathrooms. if it's to protect the "innocence" of children, well, just visit some of these other forums. it's okay for a gay couple to adopt. please, honest open discussion. don't use this as a soapbox to promote your opinion or put someone down.

wow, some of you people are geniuses (sarcasm). ok, so make everything into a sit-down stall w/ a door. that takes care of the privacy and the "i don't wanna see men pee" issue". So many of you use circular logic. But some of you have some good ideas. Keem 'em coming.

That's a little difficult to answer. The bathrooms are separated for Modesty purposes. Women do not want men ogling them or seeing them at their most private moments. And men are the same way. When homosexuals enter the picture the lines become blurred. How can we provide freedom from embarrassment from those that could be potential mates? When there is a single sexual gender in question, (i.e. lesbians/gays) there is no longer any guarantee. A straight man would think twice about approaching a women he does not know after seeing her pee on the toilet. Can we not assume that the same would be said for homosexuals? The idea has merit, but the solution is far off from being realized.

because until now, sexuality wasn't really an issue. If you were a female you liked men and vise versa. Its not unil the last couple decades that homosexuality really started making an apreance.
And also its not until the last coupe decades that women had any rights. Women and Men were not on the same plane and so going to the bathroom in the same place was just unacceptable. so in the past, it was moral reasons, now I'd say more less just tradition.
in the future I don't believe that single sex bathrooms will exist. It'll just ake more sens to make one larg bathroom. You already see it, women using the men's washroom because the line is shorter.

Bathrooms separated on the basis of gender instead of sexuality are preferable. First, there is the issue of privacy. I am not speaking about doing your bathroom business in private, but the privacy that should be afforded individuals who do not wish to publically declare their sexual orientation. Second, where do children fit into this mix, since they are for the most part, not fully aware of the sexual orientation until they become older? Thirdly, because some people in society use a bathroom for a purpose other than which is was intended (George Michael), there has to be some sensitivity to those who are uncomfortable around people who are openly expressive of their sexuality. The gender separation is one which affords these kinds of "protections" without trampling on the rights of others to use a public washroom facility.

Boy, its for your own good. You donot want to come across a pmsing stranger accusing you of leaving the toilet seat up:P
For a man the bathroom is used to pee. Most of the time standing up. A woman uses a bathroom to drag a friend or college to so that we can fix our hair and make up while discussing you. It would just be weird to chat overlooking someone peeing at a urinal. Its our headquaters. Even lesbians wouldnt want you discovering our secrets!!
And you wouldnt know what to do with those disposable sanitry packets! It would just confuse you. We use way much toilet paper, to open the stall doors, to wipe our seats, etc etc. We dont find the sound of farting amusing.
Whoever came up with the idea did so to avoid a war between the sexes. It keeps the peace.
Now next time you use a males only toilet feel very, very privilaged. Because wer hoggers. We hog the mirrors, we hog the toilets, we finish the toilet paper and we forget to leave. And weather we aprove of metrosexuality or not on pms days we will kick you with our joint stilletos for being in there with us!!!

Why not. It works. Why change the formula? Then we've got to have seperate bathrooms for every single grouping. And I don't think women would be too happy seeing a guy at a urinal discussing how he banged that redhead last night. And in reverse I don't think a guy would like having a woman in the... wait, probably the average guy would.

Bathrooms for the gay/lesbian/transexual man/transexual woman/asexual/bisexual/undecided.... why? This will be a big waste of the countries money. I'd be okay going to a public bathroom and there's a gay guy in there. If his eye's slip downwards though, he's gonna get an ***-whipping!

Was it LA Law where they had the co-ed bathrooms? Led to some weird interactions...

But! allowing for bathrooms based on sexual preference, how many would there need to be?
Homosexual men
Homosexual woman
Bisexual men/woman (do they get to use any?)
Heterosexual men
Heterosexual woman
What about transvestites?

Too expensive. But someday when humans transcend their sexual hang-ups, universal bathrooms will appear.

There isn't embarrassment when you're using the restroom with people of the same gender, regardless of their sexual orientation. Everyone there has the same parts.

To separate by sexual orientation would require outing gay people who aren't ready for that, so they'd lie. It would be useless.

Any way you slice it, it would be MORTIFYING to use the toilet among people of the opposite gender. If farting in front of your friends is embarrassing, imagine doing so in front of someone of the opposite gender? Awful!

Are you kidding me? Unisex bathrooms? I lol'd.

Well, to be frank, all men have the same genitalia, and all women have the same genitalia, regardless of sexual orientation or skin color. As for the men who are afraid of gay guys looking at their stuff, I suggest they stop worrying so much about others being aroused by the act of pissing in a urinal. In that case, we'd have to create separate restrooms for urophiliacs and coprophiliacs (which, needless to say, is a waste of time and money).

I don't know what you're talking about.

When it really comes down to it, people don't really care WHICH bathroom they use, especially after eating at Taco Hell, I mean Bell.
