I could say that Sam Tower built it but that would be an old joke. A brilliant engineer named Eiffel. He also helped build the Panama Canal, among other things.
The only firm to submit a plan and bid for an elevator in it was Otis. This firm is still in business today. It's said that when the Germans toured Paris or invaded, the cables were cut. Hitler made his one and only trip to Paris and didn't view the city from the top of the tower because he didn't want to walk up.
