I had a shock on Monday, I'm 40 in June and just found out I'm pregnant. I already have two children from a previous marriage, son aged 12 and daughter 15.

Now the fact I'm having a baby is sinking in a little can anyone help lol?

I know exactly the times I've had sex as I only see my hubby every 8 weeks or so as he's in the military. It's been such a long time I'm not sure how I'm supposed to be feeling. I've been told I'm 4-5 weeks pregnant which would be the last time I saw my hubby. I'm having the sickness but also feeling a fluttering in my stomach. From what I can remember that shouldn't happen until later. Am I right? My last period was at the end of February. Could there be a chance I was caught before then and have a period? The time I saw my hubby before that was two weeks at Christmas. I'm confused lol

I'm seeing the midwife next week because of my age. I didn't even notice if my period was different. Like you said I saw the blood and thought phew lol. So it could be I'm further gone. Roll on Tuesday when I see the midwife. I'm worried about complications because of my age. I now worry something will go wrong. I'm fit and healthy, go to the gym regular, don't smoke or drink. But I'll now slow down at the gym. Maybe even go swimming. I work full time but since finding out instead of rushing off to the gym I'm going home to have a nice bath and relax

When I first found out I was shaking and crying. I called my best friend to come straight round. It was a big shock I was having blood test that day to check my hormones, I thought I may have started menopause because of how I've been feeling

When I told my children my daughter who's 15 was excited and she's already choosing names etc, bless her. My son who's 12 was very quiet. I reassured him that I'll love him no less and have been giving him lots of cuddles. I've explained to them both that I don't need stress and need to relax more and take care of myself

Hi I was 41 when i had my 4th baby, im now 43 with a 14,12,4 yr old and 18month old!
The great news is that the older ones help! and they will adore their new sibling, i assure you!
As for how you are feeling, its a little early to feel sick or fluttering, could you be pregnant from the time you saw hubby before?
You can have a period when pregnant too! I would get a midwife to investigate, perhaps a scan!
Well done and don't be scared! Your other kids will help you through!

You will be young forever with this new baby! I had my last at 39; there was a nine year gap between him and the previous child; it was a terrible shock for me too. My marriage had broken up, and this child's father was unlikely to stay around. My oldest girl was 16; she was overjoyed; she and my next daughter were like mothers to him. I always had a babysitter; my two other sons were great with him too.
As for the pregnancy, you will have to get used to being called an elderly multigravida!
I found my energy levels were low; i found myself utterly exhausted at work; the morning sickness persisted until the 7th month, and I had no support from the child's father.
On the plus side; it was wonderful to be pregnant again, despite the circumstances. I had an easier, shorter delivery too.
My lovely son is 15 on Sunday; I'm 54. I never let a day pass without being grateful that he is here; he has brought so much joy into my life and his older sisters and brothers think the sun shines out of him.
If you have half of the joy I experienced, you will do well. I wish you well, and many happy years of joy for you and your hubby with your second youth!

Most likely the fluttering that you are feeling is just nerves. You had quite a shock and it is normal. Was your last period lighter than normal? Most women problably don't even pay much attention to the small differences. They see blood and think "Oh, well, not pregnant this month" and don't realize that it is not a normal period for them. You could have possibly been pregnant before and just has implantation bleeding. Congrats and good luck. There are a lot of women our age that are getting pregnant and have healthy babies. I just turned 37 a month ago today and am planning on getting pregnant again later this Spring or Early Summer. Just eat healthy and try to get moderate exercise, like walking or swimming...nothing too strenuous.

Congratulations! I, too, am 40 and pregnant and I can't imagine a more exciting time in my life to be bringing a little one into the world.

Age is mental as much as it is physical. I look and feel better than most women half my age.

You will probably want to read up on a few things--some stuff has changed in the past 12 years.

it will all come back to you, and this time you will have 2 older children as help.
The fluttering is often at about 14-16 weeks, however it may just be anxiety.
I have had children at a young age and late 30's. I was more relaxed and patient with the younger ones.
Enjoy it !!!!
Im sure everything will be fine.

fantastic news - I am 40+ and I am hoping to fall with my second child sometime this year. My first is now 19 months.

Won't say it is easy - the old bones creak a little more, but my god what fun.

One thing about being an older mum, things tend to wash over you a bit more easily.

Sit back and enjoy girl.

Good luck.

Congrats! From what I gather, every woman really is different when it comes to the pregnancy symptoms but sore boobs and queezy tummy, sound right to me.

It will be great to have older kids to help out! I am sure they will be excited as well.

I was actually so paranoid about the early fluttering when I was 3 weeks pregnant that I went to my doctor and he said it's perfectly normal. So don't worry about it and I'm sure you'll be a great mum
