put an ad in your local paper. Have them send a resume to your address or PO box. Do not hire anyone who can't give atleast 3 references or can cover a 10 year period of time. Also, make them sign a paper so you can have a background check done on them, you don't want a felon or child molestor working in your home. If they beat around the bush about giving you the information you ask for do not hire them. Also make sure the ref. you get from them include person and work exp. Also, it may be a little more expensive to use a cleaning contractor, but, they should have liability ins. to cover anything that may be damaged by them in your home.

Ask around to find out who is cleaning your friend's home, or their friend, and so forth. Then interview them if they have an opening to add you to their cleaning schedule. If they don't have an opening, the you know that they are good, and ask them if you can be added to their waiting list. Then, ask them if they can recommend someone to clean your home until they have an opening. Never hire someone to work in your home without them coming highly recommended, and stay at home the first several times that they clean it. It really is best to always make a point to have someone at home while any worker is there.

Get plenty of references before you even interview a cleaning person, so as not to waste your time interviewing someone who doesn't come highly recommended. The person should be able to give you references via phone when they see your want ad & call you. Once an inteview has been set up, ask lots of questions, tell her what you expect, & pay close attention to her personal neatness. That says a lot about a person. Good luck!!!

My advice is you will go through trial and error before finding a good cleaning person. I am a very picky when it comes to the cleanliness of my home and I have found in the past that no one will clean it just the way I want it cleaned. I have found that I an better off to clean it myself.

Check referances and then do what my mom did. Hide loose change under things and in places that should be cleaned but are often misses such as the couch, under an area rug, on the top shelf of a book case and when they are done cleaning go and check to see if they found the change. One it will tell you if they are honest...you should find the loose change on your kitchen counter and it will also tell you if they are doing a good job.

Ask around (friends, neighbors etc) and ask who they use and do they like the cleaning persons work. Tell them you ar shopping and need a trust worthy person that is dependable and has expereience.
I've hired two in the past by asking neighbors and was satisfied.

send an add to the newspaper or anywhere you would like so that you can get their attention.
Then schedule some interviews.
Analyze their behavior (if they are on time, if they look clean...)
Test them. Ask them to clean the house for a day for a certain amount of money. Depending on how they do it you can make a decision.
Those are my suggestions. :) I hope you find someone worth it.

Hire a mexican standing outside of Home Depot... will be the best clean you've ever had.

Ask around and see if anyone else uses one, or knows of a good one. I wouldn't go through a cleaning service they charge too much. See if you can find someone that has their own business.

As an owner of a professional window cleaning company, the following tip has proved helpful for many of my company's clients:

Demand extensive, detailed references. Peruse home service ratings websites like www.homestars.ca where existing clients of the company you are considering can post their past business and professional experiences. If you are near Toronto, Ontario, this particular website is a great local asset.

Here's my company's page, for instance:

http://www.homestars.ca/Paneless_Perfection_Inc-C38452-listing_reviews.aspx

These days, its easy for an unscrupulous company to pretend to be something they're not.

Therefore, websites like www.Homestars.ca can be extremely helpful for savvy consumers like yourself.
