I'd say try Full Metal Alchemist. It's all out on DVD so you might even be able to rent it if you have a good video place. I've been watching Samurai Champloo lately, too and it isn't bad. My roommate loves Cowboy Bebop, but I haven't watched it so I can't say whether it's good or not. You can try movies, too. Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle are all really excellent.
