the touchpad on my Acer 1642 laptop is inactive. Any help?

I have turned the sensitivity up to maximum in the Control Panel ( Windows XP Home )

Try and press" esc " top left then turn off and turn on again

only 3 possibilities to fix this issue
1.) Open up inside of laptop make sure it is still plugged in,
2.) Make sure it not turned off in bios.
