Wilma,
It is a sacrifice to have business ethics. If there were no sacrifice no one would have to choose to have them. Most successful people will tell you that this sacrifice is short term, and that having ethics enables you to be in business long term, where without ethics you won't stay in business.
Simply stated you will forego some opportunities if you have proper ethics, but you will reap a longer lasting, and likely bigger, reward for having delayed gratification.
Good luck,
Dana B.

As Dana B. mentioned, a disadvantage can be lost opportunities. An example of this would be if you were an accountant and your client wanted you to be "creative". If you and/or your company doesn't allow that, then you may lose the client but maintain your integrity and reputation.
Also, it's easier to act unethically - you cut corners, may misrepresent yourself and/or your product and have no real concern for the customer.
Dirty business always catches up with individuals and companies. I don't believe there is any longevity for those who behave unethically. Especially not when the business world is becoming more and more transparent (meaning there is more access to what goes on - good and bad- within companies).

having business ethics is like tying both your hands and going into a fight!
however, having moral ethics on how to run the business is totally different.
i was told by some Old Timer on how to run my business on the the principal of -
'Treat them FAIR, but NEVER nice'...
