Im from the UK and just wondered if many african american men have boring British names like John, David, Michael, William etc
I think the names they have are much cooler

Some African Americans are named that. My brother is named Leonard which is European. My other two brothers names are Terrance and Tywain. Twyain is the country in Asia. It's kinda weird. I got named Danisha, from Danish just add an a and you've got my name.

I really don't like black people names -- I would rather have everybody with normal traditional names -- but anyway enough with my personal somewhat prejudice opinion.
I think its probably a cultural thing -- just like Indians, Asians, Jamacians, Mexicans, and so forth have there own wierd or cool sounding names.

I've got one...Floyd.(I will not put my real one here) but it's not the African-American ones you mentioned. Some parents looked at European names as slave names so children got named African names or cool ones like you mentioned.

Sadly however, a statistical analysis indicated that those with highly cultural names faired less well when it came to getting a job, a home loan or other supposedly color blind aspects of our culture. So- be careful what you wish for.

umm im black and i knhow my avatar says tina, but my real name is Sarah, my moms name is renee and my grandma's name is gwen, my 2 best friends who are black, their names are miranda and becky, doesnt sound too black to me, but i see what ur saying
some of the names we have are cool, but some are jjust completely stupid and really ghetto

Cause the African American moms are usually younger then 23 and out of wedlock. And there really stupid!

Thanks though yea but some of them have irish names.it is choice when you have your kid you could name him or her like Sheena or Shean ( cheiann) you know
