I was watching an old horror movie (say from the 1920s-1930s) in the early hours of the morning and I didn't catch the name. It all revolved around a big old house where there were many people staying and visiting. One of the residents was an author. They were all being harrassed and stalked by a man dressed in a bat-like cape who had big claws. At one point he let a "bat" into one of the rooms and the effects were so poor that I'm sure it was just a plastic toy being thrown across the room.
It was really cheesey and semi-reminiscent of a game of cluedo. Can anyone help?

It was "The Bat" with Boris Karloff, which interestingly enough started as a stage play, then was made into a film.

I think there was a movie actually called "THE BAT" that starred Boris Karloff, but I am not sure. I KNOW that there was one by that name in the late 50s or early 60s that starred Vincent Price, but I think it was a loosely based remake of something older.
