I once heard that half of each ticket goes to the theatre owner and the other half to the movie studio. Is that true?

The chain my fiance works for grosses somewhere around 10%, the production companies entice the theaters to keep the movies longer by paying out a higher percentage the longer they play a movie.

I hope that info helps.

No, it's not true. I work in a cinema and we record the amount of money brought in on tickets and then the EDI phone and we give them the amounts for each film. I think they get some amount of money at the end of it all but not half the price of EVERY ticket sold :)

The studio receives 33% of box office receipts.
The distributor gets 25%.
The cast can get anything up to 25%, depending on their 'deal'.
The cinema gets about 10% of the price of admission.
That's why they charge so much for popcorn, and soft drinks etc.

It is usually around 10% however there are some distributors, who are jerks and may want more of the percentage and the theater is forced to take a cut however it is around 10%. The real money is made in concessions.
