I was brought in to play goalie for my indoor soccer team. I have done a solid job in goal so far despite our teams losing record. I feel our biggest problem right now is lack of defense. My team wants to replace me in goal and wants me to play in the field (although i know i will barely get any playing time, if any)

What would you do?

just because they want me to play in the field, doesnt mean my coaches will give me any playing time, which im almost certain will be limited to under 5 mins or only in blowout matches

im too talented to be a bench warmer, this decision still baffles me

this isnt like a little league for teenie boppers, these are amateur soccer players who should know where in the field to play, but choose not to because they wana play up and score goals.

you say its not a teeny bopper league but it cant be that good standard if there willing to play a keeper outfield. Take the hint they dont want you in goal and leave

Hey Wiz,your a goalie right?Thats how you see yourself right? Then why should you accept playing another spot? And then only being a sub?Thats bunk my friend.Your getting demoted, thats the bottom line. You should be ticked and should let it be known to the coach and your homies on the team.A team discussion, you might say.If that doesn't work in your favor, then you need to decide if theres a way to catch on with another team.Maybe a whole nother league or just recreationally.Ask your self, how bad you want to play goalie. If thats not an option, ask yourself how much your friendships with the other players mean to you?Are you tight with your teamates?Would you miss them all if you quit?If so,take the demotion and play your tail off.If not, turn in your jersey and tell the coach hes a idiot and a tool. Then tell him,you are going to put a curse on him and the team so that they lose every game for the next ten years.Good luck man.

Play in the field. I guess your indoor team doesn't sub as often as the ones I've played for--we usually change like a hockey team if we have the subs. Playing the field just for a little while will probably fix holes in your game. And if the team won't D up, your replacement won't do much better.

While your physical play is probably quite good, it sounds like you are missing a couple key items to goalkeeping play--there is more to it than keeping the ball out of the net. I saw a t-shirt that changed the way I play--it said "Last line of Defense, first line of Offense". The first thing is that you need to run the defense. You need to put people covering spaces or marking men. You need to tell them where to be if they don't know who to mark (put them on the opposite post of the goal in case you get crossed and are in the middle of no-man's land blocking your view and getting in your way).

Almost as important as leading the defense is starting the offense off well. Make sure you hold the ball long enough for your players to get back on offense--the quick surprise counterattack is often tempting, but rarely scores--you need to get the team on that side of the pitch, getting the ball there with one attacker against the goalkeeper with defensive support running back to cover isn't the great situation it would be in outdoor--if he needs to touch the ball twice before he shoots, he loses his advantage. You need to get your offense set up so that they can posess the ball and attack the goal with the whole team.

I'd stick it out a while. If it turns out you aren't playing and you're tired of wasting time going to games to sit on the bench, then quit. You'll probably get into the game more often than you think.

I would play the field. Team is team and the I in there is what is messing up the team. You are blaming the defense and they are blaming you. What is needed is some tinkering and that is what the coaches are trying to do. Maybe they think you can help the new goalie out by playing defense and seeing what you need to do to help him out on the field.

Same problem for my team. Tell you coach that there's a lack of defense. Then talk to the defense and tell them to cover more and attack the ball. My team has never won, so I've been trying to spread D out more. Stick with the team a while longer. Maybe it'll change a little after you talk to your coach.

Good Luck.

i would just play the small time and impress the coaches because if you impress them while you're on the will play you more often and for longer so that you can bring up the team for as you said the team you play for doesn't have a good winning record so just do what you can.

tell them exactly how u feel
i got put in xactly the same position once

I'm not that good in nets and i like playing up front. so does everybody but I'm not a selfish person i always put the team success before personal greed.
i only wanted to play upfront cos I'm good at it. but they stuck me in goal

the difference is that mine was in a club after school and urs is not

so dont put up with it tell them exactly wats in ur mind (politely though)
good luck
email me and tell me how it went

Don't be a quitter, that would do nothing but make them happy. Just go out there and give it all you've got. What more can they ask. Don't let them get the best of you.

ask who will be goalie and then tell them you expect playing time and if they still say no. say fine and leave. unless you want to be goalie id search for other teams then leave after one wants you.

don't be such a cry baby lah...
if u wanna quit...just quit...
who cares...
but if it was me...
I'd rather play infield...
of course u will get less playing time...
but its involves much more action...
rather than just standing between the goal post...
