I have a nice pair of workout shoes and when I walk across a field to go workout the yellow, dead grass puts yellow stains on my shoes. I was wondering if I can clean them by putting them in the washing machine and dryer. I have seen it done in movies but I wasn't sure if it would damage my shoes or not.

Yes it's fine. I just threw a pair of my daughters sneakers in the wash with a load of whites (bleach and all). Put them in the dryer for about 15 min. then let them air dry, in the sun if you can, to avoid shrinking.
I've done this with leather and canvas sneakers. If they are canvas and are anything other that white, then I put them in the wash with a few pair of jeans.

I agree about the leather, not washing it in the machine. Most workout shoes though easily go through the washing machine and dryer, tho it is noisy in the dryer.

Pull the laces out, pull back the tongue to wash. When it comes to drying, I pull out the insoles and dry them in the sun while the rest of the shoe bangs around in the dryer. Even then I still give then a good sunshine bath afterward.

Leather shoes can be qucikly hand washed, even scrubbed with Soft Scrub, rinsed very well, cloth dried, air dried and then "whitened" with shoe polish. Too much water will crack the leather.......hence the quick wash and immediate drying.

Yes you can put them in the washing machine, but I would not put them in the dryer. If your shoes are made of leather and you put them in the dryer it will crack. Always wash your shoes with some towels, I wash my workout shoes in hot water. After they are washed pull the tongue back and place by your refrigerator to let them dry or set them outside in the sun. This will also deodorize them.

Sure, I've washed mine. But would recommend a short drying time, and take them out while still damp. Loosen the laces and pull the tongue out and let them finish drying out of the dryer.
