Time zones were invented by a Canadian engineer, as a way to co-ordinate train schedules...a real problem in a country as big as Canada. From east to west Canada's time zones are:
Newfoundland
Atlantic
Eastern
Central
Mountain
Pacific
Or, in total 6; there is however, only a 5.5 hour difference between Newfoundland time and Pacific time, because Newfoundland time is only 30 minutes ahead of Atlantic time. At one time there were 7, but the Yukon time zone was eliminated a number of years ago, in 1975.

Yes there are clearly defined lines for the time zones in Canada, in most cases these coincide with provincial borders, though there are some exceptions..

I think it is 5 time zones
1st-Pacific (BC)
2nd-Mountain (Alta)
3rd-Central(Sask/Man)
4th-Eastern-(Ont/Que)
5th-Atlantic(the rest to the east)
Been a loooong time since I was in any type of schooling situation so this is from a memeory full of years of Mary Jane-another way of saying an educated guess(sort of)
