John McCain once called them an organization of hate. Now he tries to kiss their butt. Where is the man/woman who will call them crazy, whether he/she gets the Southern vote or not?

Calling them out on obviously nutty stuff like their choice stance and medieval morals would be a boost for their candidacy. We dance too much around the sacrosanct religious kooks and give them passes far too often. Time to stand up to the foolery and outright lies they spew.

Agreed. People like Pat Robertson are complete nutjobs, plain and simple. To wit:

"[Homosexuals] want to come into churches and disrupt church services and throw blood all around and try to give people AIDS and spit in the face of ministers." The 700 Club, 1/18/95

"I think 'one man, one vote,' just unrestricted democracy, would not be wise. There needs to be some kind of protection for the minority which the white people represent now, a minority, and they need and have a right to demand a protection of their rights." (talking about apartheid in South Africa)"

"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." (Interview with Molly Ivins)

"We're importing Hinduism into America. The whole thought of your karma, of meditation, of the fact that there's no end of life and there's this endless wheel of life, this is all Hinduism. Chanting too. Many of those chants are to Hindu Gods -- Vishnu, Hare Krishna. The origin of it is all demonic. We can't let that stuff come into America. We've got the best defense, if you will -- a good offense."

Yes. That willingness to criticize the religious right a key indicator of integrity is an indicator of the country as a whole also.

Since when is the so-called "Religious Right" an organization?

Jeez, you troll along posting this crap with no basis in fact.

I'd say a candidates political views and personal life are far better indicators of their integrity.

I'd much rather see criticism of the ACLU from a candidate.

So calling a sizable segment of the American population crazy is a desirable trait in a candidate?

The religious right are contributing members of American society, and not all are Southern, either. Keep the stereotypes and prejudice to yourself.

Separation of Church and State, I'm all for it. Is the willingness of a candidate to promise perks to the religious right if they give them their vote a key indicator of integrity? Come ON! Dangerous and dark territory we're getting in to nowadays.

Nobody, individual or organization, is beyond reproach.

That said, criticism alone is hardly indicative of integrity if it has no merit.

Who needs to stoop to that level? Hatred for a group of people for the sake of hatred is just ridiculous, and I see you are very angry at religion..what is up with that?
