No, just expose the people who cry that civil rights are being violated in every circumstance, while trying to ban a word, as hypocrites.

Yes!! for the two main reasons; the nword represents the harsh and cruel period of slavery and also, under the hate crime laws this cruel word should be considered a form of criminal hatred. as far as the first amendment goes, i really don't see how using such a historically demeaning and hateful "word" violates the first.this is why we now have laws against hate. slaves were subjected to this harsh slur 24-7 and if not for this reason alone it should be considered a hate crime. of course people are going to still say it so realistically; it would never be banned.

Why? Do you think the N-word is the only thing that causes racism? If so that is simply hilarious. What about the words like wet backs, honkey, redneck, dot head and all the other racial slurs that involve different races. What's next, ban the Rebel Flag because it's offensive? Please... Racism is the way of the worlds if started a really really long time ago and it has gotten better but it will always exsist. Their is not anything anyone can do about it except to stop teaching it to your childern because they will teach it to their children and they will teach it to theirs...how do you think it has came this far....generation after generation....

I do not condone its use, but banning any word is an extreme violation of the First Amendment.
The funny thing is, the people in the Black community are the ones that use it like a comma. Most all "Gangsta Rap" contains mega use of it.
So, if a law was enacted... who is gonna get charged with it the most? Exactly, Blacks!
On more attempt but the poverty pimps to hold their own people down.

Well, in the USA we have freedom of speech, and I don't want any of my freedoms taken away from me. Black people claim that this word is very bad and that white people don't understand the connotation of this word. If this is true, then why do some black people call each other the n word? I understand that words can be very hurtful, but only as much as we allow them to.

If we ban the N word, then we would have to ban every derogatory word used for other ethic races. If that happens then what other words would the gov. come up with to ban. We need to keep our speech free!

Sure, just as soon as you ban redneck, honkey, beaner, chink, w.etback, kike, and any other racial slur that exists.
Seriously, no. To ban a word from use is censorship and a clear violation of the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
Education, not legislation.

That violates Freedom of speech. I do think, however, everyone(including blacks) should stop using it. Just causes too many conflicts. We need to find what unites us rather than divides us.
