Check websites like UNICEF/UN/Mercy Reliefs...

There's a lot of statistics on survival, mortality rate etc.

A few problems that are currently faced are

1) AIDS/HIV
2) Lack of clean water resulting into diseases
3) Child mortality rate due to the basic vaccines that can't be afforded.

Many African governments are corrupt and money that should be going to help the people is being spent on themselves. People who are poor should realize that having more and more children only makes their situation worse. And, God has lost the ability to produce manna.
