For me it was the quiet. No sound of jet engines and how eerie it felt to look up and not see any planes in the sky.

I was in Somerset, PA on 9/14. What I remember most was the hundreds of police, fire, government, and military vehicles and personnel blocking access to the Flight 93 crash site, starting at a perimeter 10 miles away. Reading the local newspapers with eyewitness accounts of what happened. Reading the tributes on the local business signs. (I still have the newspapers and pictures of the signs.)

Another memory not from Somerset - Talking with a friend who worked rescue at the WTC starting the evening of 9/11. It was the first and only time I've ever seen him cry. And he is a hardened Vietnam vet. He's never been the same since.

On a lighter note, the last two times I've been to Somerset were three days after 9/11 and the day after the Quecreek mine collapse. Both trips were preplanned. It's a wonder my relatives still ask me to visit them. I'm going to visit them in two weeks. Hopefully nothing happens.

yeah, I remember that too. Where I lived at the time, there were usually lots of contrails overhead, but none for a few days.

I remember driving home that day and coming to a place where there were three big churches and the parking lots were overflowing in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon.

And then watching the news while trying to shield my kid from seeing it. Trying to get in touch with friends in NYC. I know a few people who were in the towers but who all got out.

And then I had to decide if I was going to accept a job I had received on the 10th - feeling so unsure about moving to another city at at time like that.

My daughter was born on the 20th, so I remember anticipating her birth...and then when I was in the hospital to have her, the only thing on any channel was still the 9/11 coverage.

For a very short time, I thought maybe, just maybe, that the liberals had awaken to the reality of what their appeasement and destructive ways had done to the country, and that we may once and for all become united and work together and get something good accomplished for a change. I was wrong, they never changed they just got worse.

The images of destruction. The smoke, the tears, the blood, the carnage.

The stories of heroism. The stories of sacrifice. The hope that we could unite and destroy our enemies one piece at a time, and make sure the could never strike us on our own soil again.

Outside the shock of the event itself, I remember how wrong the mainstream media was while reporting the event. They kept guessing this many, that many. I don't think the event needed much embellishing.

Everyone in shock and in anger.

Stock markets fell.
US dollar fell.

Flights canceled.
Price for plane tickets plummet.

You can't un-see what was seen on the screen: Those twin towers crumbling.
It was surreal and creepy.

I remember being so afraid I couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes I would see it all again. It was one of the worse tragedies of America. I remember thinking "what are we going to do to retaliate."I remember the tears streaming down my face as I watched it happen again and again.
