The epidural is the most effective at keeping you from feeling so much pain. I gave birth without & with the epidural. It was such a relief not to have to go thru all the back labor again.

After you go into labor, your doctor can give you medications for the pain. Aside from this there is really nothing that you can take, but there are some things that you can do that might help you manage the pain. One thing that i have heard helps is to walk around when you are in labor, this will help you to relax and can also speed up labor. Concentrate on your breathing, and try to distract yourself with music or something that usually calms you down in general. Also remeber to relax as much as possible (its easier said then done) but the more relaxed you can keep your muscles the easier you will be able to handle the contractions, try not to tense up. Also it can help to just change your positions, form sitting up to walking around to laying on your side. Also you can take a warm shower or bath once you go into labor, and this can help your abdominal muscles to relax.
Most important to remember... If you could not get through the pain of labor, your body would not allow you to get pregnant. You can get through it! Believe it or not, once your baby is placed in your arms, you will forget all about the pain. Good luck to you, and congrats:) YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Well if you are in labor now... nothing will prevent you from not hurting until you get to the hospital and get either an epidural or the other version in your arm (forgot what its called). If your in labor and not contracting that close together yet... you can take a warm bath and it usually will ease the uncomfortableness. But if you feel you are in full fledged labor... get to the hospital!

In a few ladies, the early contractions of real hard work might believe just like the Braxton Hicks contractions which were happening for a couple of weeks. The handiest certain indicators of work are regular contractions of the uterus that end up more and more longer, more potent, and nearer in combination. The contractions could also be as a long way aside as each and every 10 mins or so within the establishing, however they would possibly not give up or ease up it doesn't matter what you do. In time, the contractions end up extra painful and nearer in combination. In a few circumstances, regardless that, the onset of powerful, consistent contractions comes with very little caution -- it is special for each and every lady and with each and every being pregnant. You will have to name your healthcare professional for those who revel in any of those real indicators of work: •The contractions accentuate with recreation (alternatively than easing up) and don't seem to be relieved with a difference in function. •Pain starts within the lessen again and spreads to the lessen stomach or vice versa. •Contractions end up more and more extra common and painful. Sometimes, the contractions additionally end up extra consistent, however no longer continually. •"Show" (cervical mucus) is reward and is pinkish or blood-streaked. •Membranes rupture (the "water breaks")

If you are in labor, go to the hospital. In terms of pain meds? The doctors and nurses at the hospital will decide what's best for you for pain control. Best of luck to you and your little one!

Take deep breaths... relax. Don't focus on the pain, breathe though it.
Once the pain gets to be too much, get the epidural... it's so worth it!

Don't take anything before you go, they will give you something at the hospital if you need it. And it might not be as bad as you think, everyone's different.

i wouldn't take anything, but i found that laying on my side eased the pain. of course the nurses would tell me to lay on my back. they said it slows the delivery down if you lay on your side, which is probably true, but it did give me relief when i needed a break.my son weighed 10.1,so not much was going to slow him down. happy baby day!
