Your Local Chicago Park District!!
Lots of activities for young 'uns
with a large variety.
Also...check into signing up yourself at
the same time and learn how to do
ceramics, stained glass, etc.
Stop in and check them out.
You'd be surprised what they have to offer lately.
Good luck.

Any of the museums are great: Museum of Science and Industry, Adler Planetaruim, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium.
You could also try Brookfield Zoo.
For free - there are lots of great nature centers in the forest preserves. I attached a link to the different nature centers in Cook Coounty. The Little Red School House is my favorite, I grew up near there :-)

Goggle it, and try all the combinations you can think of in Chicago.
It is amazing what resources there are on the internet for stuff like that - tourists use it all the time, but if we live in a place, we tend to overlook it.
Plus, there are often coupons you can print out for discounts or food. My daughter does it all the time and discovered some great places just around the corner.
Have fun

Admission for Lincoln Park zoo is free, so that's a great combo for what you want. Cheap and good for kids.
