So, my boyfriend and I were talking and I said I wouldn't mind watching sports with him because it's so comfy being snuggled on the couch together, or in the bed when we watch TV or movies. He told me that we could only do that if he was watching a game he didn't care about. He said if he cared about the team that was playing, he wouldn't want me to "distract" or "bother" him like that. He says it's a guy thing - but I would think being together with your significant other would make watching the games even nicer for guys. What does everyone else think?

OK - so, I see what everyone is saying about getting into the sports and that not being a good time for other things. I guess I didn't get it before because I could care less about sports. Thanks for the insight. My boyfriend will be very happy!

Of course. You can always tape or TIVO the game if the snuggling progressed.

Personally, I love it when my wife watches sports (Go Redskins!!) with me, especially if she's remotely interested in the game. I get to feel like an all-knowing sports guru (although I'm not at all) plus making-out during half-time rocks!
If you seem genuinely interested in the game-play and outcome, he should be thrilled to enjoy sports with you.
However, some guys think sports-time is guys-time or even alone-time. But these guys seem to me to be jerks.
UPDATE: in reading the other answers, I may have to change tack a bit. Hanging-out watching important game: good. Snuggle-snuggle during important game: maybe not so good. You may (as other posters pointed out) catch a stray elbow or get dropped out of lap onto floor during critical play.

How can you snuggle during a game unless you like an elbow in the ribs or a back hand in the face . Guys cant sit still watching a game .What are you thinking ?

Guys really get into games they are interested in. We jump, we shout, we twitch. Cuddling during this time would not be a good idea. You might get hurt and it is distracting. If we don't care who wins, then we can watch it relaxed so it would be ok then. Let us enjoy our sports. The only way you are going to make us stop watching is if you want sex at that moment.

My husband and I snuggle during NASCAR, it is wonderful, however that isn't the same as most sports, all it is, is a bunch of cars doing 180MPH and making left turns. Now I can understand the adrenaline rush that happens when watching B-ball or Foot ball, and I too get into those games. Save the snuggeling for movies and American Idol!!!

I think you need to stop being such a girl and let the man watch his games! That is our time, our happy place. We don't want to cuddle when you get your nails done, heck we don't even want to go. We don't invade on your time don't invade on ours. In every relationship there is always "me time" and "our time" if there wasn't then there wouldn't be a good relationship. Trust me you would only get mad if we were cuddling during a game and we threw you off so we could celebrate a touchdown, home run or a three point shot, so save yourself the neglect and let him watch the game without cuddling. Cuddle after!

When my husband watches Hockey, he gets so involved in the game and is constantly moving, cheering or cursing. On these occasions I find it best to just sit near him but no snuggling, it's usually safer that way.
I can honestly say that men get so caught up in the game that they are constantly moving around. Your best to wait until after the game to snuggle.

Oh man. I would love if my wife would want to watch sports w/ me or anything w/ me and snuggle. Just to spend time together is great. Unforturnately I have given up TV altogether b/c it's no fun for me doing things alone.

im a girl. but i would think that a guy that's really into a game...is in it not just mentally, but also physically. watch a guy when he's watching sports...they are tense like a hunter ready to pounce. not in a good way. hahaha! best to cuddle when theyre not in that mode...particularly if your guy honestly told you not to. wait til after the game...;) peace.

I take every available opportunity to snuggle with my wife, regardless of the TV.
