This is my first computer build all by myself so pls excuse the ignorance. But the mobo (asrock) manual says I HAVE to put the RAID drivers on a floppy in order to install them during windows installation. Is there another way to do this or do i really have to buy and install an internal floppy drive and then take it out again when I'm done (as i need the bay for media card reader)?

Also, Asrock say that the XP drivers "should" work with vista..should I be confident in this or am a setting myself up for a disaster? (and it is too late to say don't use vista as I really need to get this done today). Thanks!

disaster! don't do it.

once the raid driver is installed, you can uninstall the FDD and install your media card reader and Vista.

Thats the best way, unless you can get the drivers to install from an optical drive, which i don't think you can.

sorry.

I am not sure about Vista, but I do know that on XP you NEED the floppy. Really, the only way to tell is to attempt the installation with the drivers on say, a CD rom or flash drive, then when it prompts you to install 3rd party drivers follow the directions.

As far as the drivers working on Vista, I would be very wary of that statement. "Should" is not something you want to see in a statement about drivers.

I do not have much experience with Asrock hardware, and I am pretty sure that is for a good reason. I would not be very confident that the drivers will work properly in vista.

From what I've heard, vista has raid drivers built in, but I havent tried it.
And most XP drivers work on vista, but not all. And not all of the ones that do work properly. So I have no idea if the raid drivers you have will work even if you buy a floppy drive.

I'd say to give it a shot without the drivers first, It could be the manual for the motherboard was written before vista came out. If it dosent work worst thing that could happen is you have to reinstall vista. Building computers, particurally your first one, is a learning experience.
