In the UK I don't think there's any difference anymore. The left has moved right and right left so that they all occupy the middle ground.
The lib dems who are the mainstream party who are closest to my ideals are not going to gain power.
although I am interested in politics and keep upto date with what's happening I don't feel represented at all.
My reasons...
well i suppose i'm a socialist but labour don't represent a socialist choice anymore. Just look at the budget - it f#cks over the poorest with the new income tax regieme. That's not on. i'm probably better off through it but i don't care about that.
Conservatives... they don't sound like tories any more either. I don't trust david cameron as far as i could throw him. He seems fake - image consultants, changing partings who gives a flying one. I want to know policies! Not just sodding green ones which is all he'll bleat on about at the moment whilst he takes a private jet from london to hereford. Tw'@t
I get the feeling that all the torys and labour are interested in is chasing votes amongst key 'market segments' rather than actually improving the lives of the whole country.
Where I live labour could put in a donkey with a red rose pinned to it and it would win and they have done for years in Hillary Armstrong - She's not voting to represent my views and i doubt the views of many other constituents, she goes with whip (hardly surprising since she was chief whip for so long).
So to answer your question, no!

No! The democratic party are radically liberal, power and money hungry, too politically correct for the country's own good. The Republican party has let me down. They don't follow through with what they say they will do for this country. Either because the liberals will shut down every policy brought to the floor and/or the ACLU will throw some more lawsuits their way.
If you can find me a political party that believes in the Christian Conservative values that this country was established through; a party that will secure our borders physically and diplomatically; will establish a better education system and bring religion/church back into the schools (the first schools in America were Christian Schools, teaching students not only the three R's, but the Bible as well), then let me know.
To all those that read this: Education starts in the home. Live and teach through God's words and your children will listen and live through him as well. God Bless America.

I'd vote for the Liberal Democrats if they stood a chance of winning, however I don't consider it likely. After the Thatcher years, I don't think I'd ever want a Conservative government again, but New Labour is only (ever so) slightly better.
The Lib Dems general approach that if you want decent public services who have to pay for them suits my thinking. However they lack an effective leader and cannot currently compete with the "we've always voted for Labour/ the Conservatives" portion of the voting population.
I consider the Conservatives too corrupt and incompetent to lead and have no idea what New Labour will become once Blair is no longer leader. New Labour is tainted by involvement in the illegal, Bush-driven Iraq war, the rise of political correctness and the nanny state.

No, that is why I'm neither a Democrat nor a Republican. In terms of the social issues like abortion or gay marriage I agree with the Democratic Party but on fiscal issues I agree with the Republicans ( the old ones not the news who aren't fiscal conservatives). I have diverse, complex views on every issue and I don't see both parties representing my beliefs fully.

No Political Party represent my beliefs completely, and indeed it is impossible for them to do so all of the time.
All parties pay lip service only to the people.
If you want a percentage of do's and don'ts then even though I always vote. My chosen party represents me approx 10% of the time.
Politicians of course represent them selves 100% of the time.

Do they hell!!!.......They only represent their bank balances and pensions.........As for the good old working public they fleece us for what ever they can get!!.....The so called 'main' parties have a cushy number and protect their standing making it hard for any other parties to have a say......Well if we all voted for the smaller parties and independents at the next election, not only would these self serving leeches be out of a job but the country will probably be better run!!!

I believe they do, because the system makes it so.
They cannot represent the issues that I, you or somebody else believes in but most people oppose, they have to stick with what is politically viable. The media are very influential in this.
Personally I wish they could make life easier for small parties, small taxpayers and smaller companies. But that's unlikely to happen, right?

Yes and no. Unfortunately, the truth is that in the 2 major party system, a vote for a 3rd party candidate would in essence be like a vote for the major party you oppose.
It's sad, but it's true.
Do I find 3rd party candidates being more in agreement with my beliefs? Sure.
Will I vote for them? Depends; since the races I vote in are usually heavily one way or the other, I vote more 3rd party. But in close races, it's more important that the Democrat NOT win.

Any time one needs to pander to a massive audience, it reaches a little shy of what anyone should endorse without questioning why. Our political party leaders develop messages that resonate with the most voters. As such, how CAN they represent anyone's true beliefs, unless, they are kind of simple.

I think the Democrats are coming around on the war, but I do not agree with abortion due to religious beliefs. Other than that, they are pretty consistent with my beliefs. I believe in helping Americans above all else.
