People ask questions because they want an answer to help them. So, why do some answer with insults instead? To me it seems as if those who do this either have a problem themselves or just want the 2 points for answering the question. All the points do for you is bring you to the next level so Why bother answering if all you can do is insult others?

They have found a way to let their anger out in the Yahoo Answers. A place where no one knows who they are and don't understand that anything done in writing can actually reflect on them and affect them at some point. But it is "anger" and that is all they express by insulting anyone they feel and in the process it feels like a game to them, then others get contatious and will join in the game to get 2points and next level and so on.....

I agree with you substancially - unless someone else is being out of line with their own question. But I'm sure that an intelligent person can find a diplomatic and articualte way of answering, whether the questions were inappropriate or not.
And you are also right on another thing - answering scores you points - insulting people scores you a lack of respect towards you from others, and from you.
REAL people go on answers... And if someone has been in a crisis, which I have been recently (even though this was the first time that I have truly washed my dirty laundry in public), then how dare someone make fun of that, or be inconsiderate and rude? I'm sure that they have experienced their own personal trauma....
I have had a rocky life, but I don't take it out on 'every' single person I come across...
If they are that rude just report them. thats my advice.

Ya got to remember that most people are shallow but that the entire world, thank God, is not made up of them.

The next group of people are those who have put themselves up on a pedestal. They are the ones that think that they are better than anyone else, so any question you might ask is really just mute.

The next group of people are not as smart as they wish that they were so they are going to tell you how dumb and insulting that you are instead. For some reason this pumps them up.

A small group of people really do care and will answer to the best of their ability. Of course, no one being perfect, they will defintely have their off days and can fit into one of the groups above.

Me. I care, but even I have had my moments. Thankfully they don't last.

Some people are just mean. It's nice you don't agree with them , but don't let it upset you. A number of people does it just for the 2 points, I'm sure, and others maybe get a kick out of insulting others. But that's a reflection of who they are. They're probably insecure with other people and blow off steam by insulting people over the net, because they can't deal with people in real life. Don't be mad at them, we should all feel sorry for them!

I wouldn't even let this silly stuff bother me if I were you. You pretty much just answered your own question. I also want to add that people give insulting responses because they really don't know any constructive, intelligent way to answer a particular question, so it's easy to say the first negative thing that comes to mind.

Insult is like taste in the eye of the beholder. If somebody tells me, I am an idiot, then I think about, if he has a point. If five people tell me that, I think about, they could be right. Anyway, Insult is democracy at its best. It, hopefully, contains humor and without humor we would live all like religious fanatics, praying to some fictional idol. Insult and humor is part of the philosophical process to determine boundaries of social maturity.

And levels mean nothing. Its simply a number which shows how many answers you have given.

Personlly I think that the user asking the question should have the right to deny points to a user. That way the levels would mean something.

I m sure this isnt the only place that youve run into this type. they are in every crowd. imature attention seekers that burst out stupid stuff for attention cause no one is looking at them.like the child who misbehaves or throws a fit when company comes over because of feelings of insecurity.which im sure these people feel alot of esp.concerning intelligant or meaningfull conversations.
best advice is let them score their 2 points and release some of the venom that makes them ill.but dont let them score by taking your peace of mind. give em a thumbs down and let it slide.
peace><>

Oh my god, i know! I HATE when people do that. No one wants to come to Y/A just to be insulted. I think some people just think they're being funny, when they're really just pissing people off. Some people get a thrill out of being an *** i guess. Eh. :]

Some people are just down right insensitive, don't care and are immature. And yes they may have problem themselves. Like my mother used to tell me, misery loves company.
