AVG from grisoft has a free version, just as good as the pro version, it is regularly updated, nothing has ever got past mine (35 month) and like I said it is completely FREE even the updates!

AVG Anti Virus and Zone Alarm Firewall, both highly recommended!

with Norton only install the AV - not the full suite. AVG is good and I used it for several years but I like Avast better - both are free.

Of the two that you list I would go with AVG,Norton too memory hungry & will slow down your pc.

I was infected with a Trojan horse last week and I was told by a reliable source about Avast Free edition, it blew the the virus out of the water whereas AVG etc didn't touch it. I would suggest Googling it and downloading it. It rocks!!!

Norton is better, there might be a way to only have Norton's firewall working while the rest of it is not working.

I would've said Norton, but I've had problems with the previous version which required me to wipe my hard drive to sort it out. I've also heard bad things about the new version - to be honest it sounds like more trouble than it's worth!
