I was a cashier at WalMart for 7 years and overall, I liked it. In spite of the claim that it attracts rednecks, I've seen people from all walks of life come through my line.

As far a schedules were concerned, it depended on who was doing the schedule. One guy got all the registers covered & gave people the time off they needed. Others weren't as good at it.

Working in a retail store it tough. You have to stay nice when customers grumble & blame you for stuff. The hours aren't too predictable. If it is slow in your department another department will "borrow" you to help them stock or something.

I think all the people who complain about "slave labor" are just not used to working.

Well they are cheap, I've worked there for 15 years and only make 11 bucks an hour, plus benefits. I am a floor manager of the sock and purse department and have been for over 10 years. They treat you like crap as far as the other jobs I have held over the years, and they always of course like any boss want more for nothing. I hate it but with a young family, I have to stay because jobs aren't as easy to find anymore. So I suck it up.

I know a few people who worked there, and they all say bad things about it. They said the pay was good, and all that, but they didn't really enjoy working there.
