The reason the moon has craters is because it's been hit by asteroids and particles in space... not because it ever erupted. There is no atmosphere on the moon.

Science has a theory that we used to have two moons, and they collided, thus creating the moon we have now.

What the moon has in common with the volcanoes, I am sure I don't know.

The moon was once all molten rock, not unlike a volcano.

The answer is simple but not scientific. Both have craters.
But remeber, volcanic craters are formed by volcanic erruption while lunar craters are formed by meteorites hitting the surface of moon.
