hehehe...i'm down in PR - live Near to where Daddy Yankee's from.....and i'm a studio musician, so i've been around its creation for a while now!

truth is, it's a really, really catchy groove that's just basically a variation on a standard latin groove. (for you musicians, it's the bass tumbao being played on the snare with a steady stream quarter note kick drum pattern....really simple)

the saddest thing about it now is how homogenous it is. many of the reggaeton groups here in PR are doing really lame mixes in a "music for dummies" program called Fruity Loops...or FL. it's a great program b/c you can create music even if you know NOTHING about music....and that's what's happening; there's actually a disk of samples floating around here in PR in the studio scene that has the beat simply laid out and a whole bunch of sounds used in it - all you have to do is plug it in to the program...and you have a song!!! (yes, i got a copy!!) lol

essentially, the same thing that happened with hip hop, until real talented musicians started making rap records....because they have since.

reggaeton needs to be "milked" by real artists. right now, it's a total musical ploy to the 'lowest common denominator' listener base (just look at the behavior of it's typical listener). it's definitely NOT going away, though...not by a long shot.

i don't really enjoy it, personally. i liked it better when shabba ranks was doing basically the same grooves without the whole badass undereducated gangsta thing that's happening now.

peace!

It's great, they have really good beats and the dancing is fun. It originated in Panama and the reggaeton used to be simpler but I like it. Everybody has a right to an opinion.

reggaeton is annoying. i know its really famous style of music. but its all the same beat. if you pay close attention youll see its the same beat every song some slower some faster and all with a different beat. tap ta tap ta.. tap ta tap ta tap. listen to the drum youll see what i mean. but its not queer a queer is being gay and thats very rude to say.
