I would not use a regular phone cable to do that. Get the DSL cable they send you.

They are different yes. You need to use the gray cable that they sent you. If you need a longer cord because the phone jack is to far from the computer then at&t recommends purchasing a longer ethernet cord. The longer the cord is from the phone jack to the modem then the weaker your signal will actually get. I work at a call center for at&t and this is what we tell customers that have their phone jack and computers in seperate rooms.

Same except it probably has four wires instead of two. It only takes two wires to run a phone but to get decent signal on DSL you really need a four wire connecting cable from phone jack to modem.
The reason is that phone companies require two wires to send and two to receive .

Yes... never had a problem using that before... Just make sure that you use the ethernet cable they provide to connect from the modem to your router/pc.
