Hydrolases are enzymes that perform hydrolysis of chemical bonds. So in this example, enzymes of the digestive system would hydrolyze (break apart) the bonds contained within food that is ingested and that is how energy and nutrients, ions etc are extracted (and eventually) used by your body.
