The answer is, ''yes you can'' unless your wife has named someone else as beneficiary, There will also be a death grant equal to about twice her annual salary that you can claim now.
You need to contact her previous employer or her pension provider and request details of the terms of the pension. You should be entitled to half of the pension she would receive. The amount being based on the number of years paid in and the total contributions. The longer you leave your enquiries the harder it will be to make such a claim.

Did your wife work for the government or you talking about Social Security? If she worked for the government you might be able to get something-- if you are talking about Social Security, if you haven't remarried and her Social Security was more than yours, you could draw on hers instead of your own.

If you were listed as her beneficiary on any of her retirement accounts you would be notified by the executor of her will or by the investment company/annuitor managing the funds. Depending on how long she has been deceased and how close your relationship was, you should already have been notified as long as they have been notified of her death.

Call your attorney! He/She will know.

Otherwise, make more money so you don't have to worry.
